Oct. 3 Exit Slip -- Poetry in the Garden

Here are a few of the poems I wrote yesterday in the garden. The first is a Hemachandra poem that follows the pattern 8-5-3-2-1-1-2-3-5-8 in syllables.

you are everywhere all at once

the first glimpse of sun

on my cheeks

morning

breeze

peace

willows

dragonflies

leaves quieting me

you are everywhere all at once

I then did a list poem of sorts:

I am from...

    mountain tops and river valleys

broken branches and fallen leaves from a family tree

the open highway and the dead-end road

    the remainder of long division

hugging the yellow line on the wrong side of the road

a packed suitcase waiting by the door

    filled pages that appear blank

    restlessness and idle minds

    cautionary tales
